Shortly after the above-mentioned meeting with Proudhon, Tolstoy founded a series of schools for peasant children on his estate at Yasnaya Polyana which over their twenty-year existence foreshadowed many of the principles later put into practice by A.S. Neill at his Suffolk school, Summerhill, founded in 1921 and still running today. A contemporary assessment of the Yasnaya Polyana schools can be found here:

http://www.cyberspacei.com/jesusi/authors/crosby/tolstoy/schoolmaster.html

Four key Tolstoy texts on anarcho-pacifism ("non-resistance") can be found here:

http://www.cyberspacei.com/jesusi/authors/tolstoy/patriotism_and_government.htm
http://www.cyberspacei.com/jesusi/authors/tolstoy/slavery_of_our_times.htm
http://www.cyberspacei.com/jesusi/authors/tolstoy/letter_to_a_non_commissioned_officer.htm
http://www.cyberspacei.com/jesusi/authors/tolstoy/a_letter_to_russian_liberals.htm

Also check the Anarchist Audiobooks post on this site.

Cheers, Dave Sez.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-375795824791902367.post-7780605718283041412010-05-11T13:21:23.542+01:002010-05-11T13:21:23.542+01:00Hi Walker,

I've read anarchist theory til I'm blue in the face but he actually shows how it can all easily be put into practice. They should make it compulsory reading in schools!Highlanderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13071300726235352555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-375795824791902367.post-10374517038456280922009-10-06T20:49:21.634+01:002009-10-06T20:49:21.634+01:00superb - cheers!superb - cheers!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
